This is contained in a press statement issued by the state secretary, Barrister Hassan Razaq made available to journalists in Ilorin on Monday.
Vanguard checks revealed that the deliberate absence of Senator Gbemisola Saraki in the important events of the party in recent time lend credence to her alleged plan to dump the party.
Senator Gbemisola Saraki, the only female gubernatorial aspirant who came close third in the keenly contested primaries among other thirteen male aspirants was alleged to have been ridiculed out of the party because of her growing political profile.
The last straw that broke the camel back was the fifty thousand naira allegedly made available for her to mobilise her teaming supporters to the last visit of President Goodluck Jonathan to Ilorin which she rejected and therefore stayed away from the event.
The secretary in the statement noted that, “Although we are relieved by the assurance that the rumour of the possible defection of Sen. Gbemi Saraki is false and unsubstantiated, nevertheless, we consider it expedient to implore Senator Saraki and her teeming supporters not to allow the voices of division to overwhelm them.”
The statement added that, “At this critical time in the life of our party in Kwara State, we believe that all hands must be on deck to sustain the party and lead it to victory in the forthcoming polls.”
As a party, the statement stressed, “we believe Senator Gbemi Saraki has made invaluable contributions and sacrifices for the PDP in the state and beyond.
“We particularly noted her maturity and sportsmanship before, during and after the party primaries which produced distinguished Senator Simeon Ajibola as the party’s governorship candidate.”
