Chief Aondowase Chia, the Benue State Commissioner for Rural Development and Cooperatives, slumped and later died in the hospital.
Chia died at about 6.30am at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi, from a cerebrovascular disease. He was aged 46.
The Chief of Staff to the Governor, Prof. Saint Gbilekaa, who led members of the state executive council on a sympathy visit to the family of the deceased in Makurdi, the state capital, described the death as sad and very unfortunate.
Ironically, just a few days before his death, Chia who was a PDP chieftain in Benue state had mocked the APC Presidential candidate, General Mohammmadu Buhari by describing him as a “quarter to go” ( on the verge of death). It was gathered that the late Benue Commissioner had made this claim last weekend on a listserv at a Tiv network called “ATE U TIV”.
Unfortunately, Chia is the second commissioner in the ministry to die in office under the administration of Governor Gabriel Suswam.
Atorto Girgi, an indigene of Ushongo Local Government Area of the state, as the ministry’s commissioner, died in active service over three years ago.
