The ASUU strike 2013 continues, and the update on Saturday is that the rumored NEC meeting wasn't held and won't be held until at least Wednesday.
Why?
Because the lecturers declared a seven-day mourning period after Festus Iyayi, a former president of the union, died on November 12, as revealed by Dr. Olusegun Ajiboye, chairman of the union branch at the University of Ibadan.
That means no meeting will be held until at least Wednesday, November 18.
Ajiboye made the remarks in an interview with Diamond FM, reported the Daily Post. His remarksa ppear to trump rumors that the National Executive Council meeting was going to be held
on Saturday or Sunday.
Originally–before Iyayi's death–the meeting was scheduled for November 13, and the union was expected to call off the months-long strike. The next day the union was expected to then meet
again with President Goodluck Jonathan to finalize the decision.
It's still expected that the union will call off the strike when it holds the NEC meeting, the only question is about when the meeting will be held?
