A MAN caught with a prostitute in his car told police she was helping him buy TOMATOES.

Married dad-of-four Mohammad Ikhlaq offered up the bizarre excuse to cops who spotted the known sex worker sitting in his car, as he withdrew £20 from a cash machine in Walsall town centre on May 9.

The 39-year-old prison officer claimed the woman was showing him where he could get fruit he needed to buy for a work colleague. He said: “I asked her because I thought she looked local and I was in a hurry. She said she was going that way.”

Ikhlaq was arrested and this week found guilty of soliciting at Walsall Magistrates’ Court.

He was fined £400 and ordered to pay £665 in costs.

PC Stacey Paterson, from Walsall police, said: “I’ve heard some excuses before but in the 10 years that I have been a police officer I have never heard a kerb crawler covering up his crimes by claiming to be buying tomatoes.

“Our officers and the courts saw through his lies and (Ikhlaq) has now been found guilty.”
