Arsenal have offered a trial to Nigerian defender Godfrey Oboabona, according to the Daily Mail.
Oboabona is said to have caught the eye of the North London club while competing in the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year.
The 22-year-old defender was an instrumental part of the Nigerian side that won the year’s competition, as the Nigerians beat minnows Burkina Faso in the final.
The defender, who is rated at £1million, has already earned himself 18 caps for his country while playing for the Sunshine Stars, but is hopeful of a move to a top club.
“I have offers from the top five leagues in the world,” the Nigerian said.
“Arsenal are my favourite club from my childhood and it is the club I want to play for.”
Arsene Wenger will be looking to bolster his squad this season having seen his side underachieve yet again. The North London club have now gone eight years without bringing silverware to the club and are coming under pressure from their fans.
Things could still get worse at the club though as Arsenal are yet to guarantee their place in next season’s Champions League and currently find themselves four points behind rivals Tottenham with a game in hand.
